What we have measured

Every ratio below is computed, not estimated.

Body text on the page background is 14.7:1. Text inside a prose block is 9.4:1. The requirement is 4.5:1.
The keyboard focus ring is 8.0:1 on the light background, 8.6:1 on the dark bands and 6.4:1 on the navy ones. The requirement is 3:1. It was 1.4:1 on navy until this audit, which meant a keyboard user lost their place in the footer of every page.
Placeholder text is 4.8:1. It was 2.4:1 until this audit, which mattered most on the pledge form, where the placeholders carry format guidance that appears nowhere else.
The primary button is 7.0:1 at rest and 4.9:1 while hovered. The hover state was 4.2:1 until this audit.
Every text color on the dark and navy bands clears 5:1, most of them well past it.

What the site does

Every page works from the keyboard alone, with a visible focus ring, a skip link, and in-page links that land clear of the sticky header rather than underneath it.
Form fields have real labels, never placeholder text pretending to be a label, and the browser's own autofill is wired up properly.
Errors appear next to the field they belong to, name that field rather than telling you to look for a highlight, and are announced to screen readers.
Submitting a form does not throw your focus to the top of the page, and the confirmation is focused when it appears.
Animation is switched off entirely when your system asks for reduced motion.
Content is never hidden behind JavaScript that might not arrive. If our script fails to load, the page still shows everything on it.
Information is never carried by color alone. The county map on the front page names its counties in text beside the picture.
Text reflows down to a 320 pixel viewport and can be zoomed to 200 percent.

Known gaps

Three things we know are wrong and have not fixed yet.

Headings and body text sit close in size on a small screen. The type scale compresses at the narrowest widths, so the difference between a heading and the paragraph under it is smaller than it should be.
Two charts clip their own labels under text-only zoom. The percentage figures on the polling page and the debt figure on the pledge page sit inside fixed-height bars. If you enlarge text without enlarging the page, those numbers can be cut off. The same figures are written out in the prose around them.
The video cards on the press page cannot be reactivated. Once a video has been swapped in, that card leaves the keyboard order. Reloading the page restores it.
